Liar, Liar, Pants on Fire

Seems like new NESN golden girl Heidi Watney is, well let’s say not so nice.
Watney yesterday denied cursing. She told the Herald “I think I have a little more class than that.”
I guess she does if Watney’s definition of class is calling a Hoover vice principal and her former boss a liar.
It would have been easy for Watney to have just said she has a passion for her job and she let that get out of hand. But wait. There’s more.
Watney told the Herald it was her decision to leave KMPH because “it was time for a change” and she was ready to move on. Then she added that “We parted on good terms.”
When Watney left KMPH no one would say a word. General manager Charlie Pfaff wouldn’t answer a single question about Watney’s departure. Employees have been told they can not talk about her leaving. Over the years I have written about hundreds of television and radio personalities leaving their jobs. Never has a person left under good terms and management been so silent. At the least there is a “we wish them good luck.” Not a word has been said about Watney.
Hmmm…if this was a story about a Red Sox player, it would be plastered all over the local sports news. Good to see NESN has hiring standards.
What a world

Currently, the Tampa Bay Rays are in first place by a full game in the AL East. The team in last place? The New York Yankees. By 4.5 games.
Sure, it’s only May 16th. Things in baseball change quickly. This time next month, the teams could totally switch places. But today? Today the Rays are the ‘best’ team in the AL East and the Yankees are the ‘worst’.
And I can’t help but smile at that.
Tonight, my friend Ted takes his first walk into Fenway Park and he’ll see Daisuke Matsuzka on the mound versus old friend Jeff Suppan.
It’s old home weekend at Fenway! Jeff Suppan, Eric Gagne, and a player who DIDN’T give Sox fans the fits: Gabe Kapler, back as Brewers. I’m excited to see Kapler. The other two? Well, not so much.
I’ll be at Fenway Friday and Saturday this weekend and then at a dance recital for Madison on Sunday. (I’ll be getting updated from Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, since Kyle is starting for the PawSox Sunday at 1:30pm!) My weekend will be full and fun!
See these people?

These people are the people I love most in the world (them and my dad, who didn’t make the visit to the trophies).
My sister, my goddaughter and my mother.
See how happy they look? And why not? They’re posing with the 2004 and 2007 World Series trophies. This photo was taken tonight. Around 6:45 or so.
You might ask, “Where were YOU Cyn? God knows YOU’D want to see BOTH trophies together and get your photo taken with them.”.
That would have been nice. A family photo with the trophies. Way cool, right? Nope. I didn’t get the call. Can you imagine? Not even a phone call. (This is what happens when you work as late as I usually do. No one thought I’d be around in time. Go figure - tonight I was.)
My revenge will be well-planned and evil. That’s all I’m saying. When it’s least expected, they should expect it, baby.
Madison DID make me laugh tonight when she said, “I don’t know what the big deal is, it’s not like we went to see Mike Lowell without you. YOU went to see Kyle Snyder without ME!”.
She’s six going on 16. (And she must have Mike Lowell on the brain thanks to my mother - he’s HER favorite.)
Seriously, I’m really happy they all got to see the trophies and got photos for posterity. Our family…to say they like the Red Sox would be understating it just a bit.
This is almost as big a deal for them as it would have been for me. We printed up the photos they took of just Mad with the trophies and she’s bringing them to school tomorrow. Pretty cool thing to get to brag about on a Friday, huh?
Take a good look at that little face. A few more years and SHE’LL be blogging about the Red Sox like her aunt and her grandmother!

I can’t stop watching this. It’s like watching an episode of “America’s Funniest Home Videos”.
After all this time, I still dig me some Kevin Millar. I miss his being on the team but I love how he’s embraced being an Oriole.
How can you NOT love Manny?

I missed it live, but watching Manny high five a fan in the middle of making a great catch and THEN doubling off the man at first…how does this not become the play of the season?

AP Photo
I mean WHO does this kind of thing and makes it successful?
Manny Ramirez, that’s who.
Jere has an awesome version of the replay here. The dugout reactions are priceless.
Sox get a day off today. Hope they all spend it sleeping or doing whatever they need to do to get the suck out.
PVs to my friend Ted. Flying up today from North Carolina for his first trip to Fenway. He’s nervous about the flight (which is probably putting it mildly) so sending him some good thoughts while he makes his way up would be greatly appreciated!
See you tomorrow at Fenway - and safe travels!
(Ooh, and for more humor, read this “Editor’s Note” from Kevin Convey about he and John Tomase. Both men should lose their jobs immediately, but Convey wants you to feel sorry for Tomase and believe that the Herald only cares about having a “bond of trust” with its readers. Fuck off, Convey and take that asswipe Tomase with you. Maybe Arlen Specter has jobs waiting for the both of you. BUT WAIT, almost better than that is the take from ANOTHER POS, Tony Massarotti. You see, it isn’t the Herald’s fault for having absolutely no journalistic integrity, it’s the FANS, they’re at fault!)
Seriously, if any New England sports fan ever buys the Boston Herald again, they totally deserve whatever pain they get from it.

Taking the pressure off of Kyle to get our minds off of crappy baseball, I give you Kevin Millar.
When NESN first showed this, back in the day, it triggered a group live-blogging of sorts over at the old Red Sox fan forum. So it brings back good memories on many levels:
Oh for the love of…

I mean really.
Raise your hand if you knew Jay Payton was going to hit that grand slam.
Okay. Fine. Let them get all the suck out of them in May, right? I can deal with that.
PawSox got rained out tonight and will play a double-header tomorrow. Bronson pitched some damn fine ball tonight (seven scoreless innings) and STILL didn’t get the win and the Yankees took one from the Rays. Now, I’m watching the end of the Celtics game and hoping for one aspect of Boston sports to NOT annoy me tonight. (Update: Celtics won - that’s a good way to end my sports-watching evening.)
How many photos of Kyle can I post to help keep me in a good mood?
Incidentally, if you’re looking for photos of Kyle to put you in a good mood, we (that is my fellow SGers and myself) have been updating the LOLKyle site daily (and then some!). I know he’d probably think we’re just nutty fans, but the truth is these Kyle photos really do the job if you want a smile. (Kelly was right when she told me that there’s just something about Kyle that makes these captions work. So, thanks for that, Kyle. It might be silly, but it sure does the trick.)
A preview of what you’re missing if you haven’t visited LOLKyle:

Yeah, we’re a witty bunch.
Onward and upward. My friend Ted shows up tomorrow for his first trek to Fenway Park…it’s going to be a helluva weekend and the Sox best get with the program!

Kyle for the smile! (Hope he’s feeling better!) Photo by Kelly O’Connor
As folks know, I hate leaving negative posts up as the first one you get to see. So I’m leaving you with this from Josh Beckett’s press conference in Cleveland after Game 5 of the ALCS last year.
Expletive warning - so don’t play it loudly at work or in front of the kids.
BUT, given that they won and how it all turned out, it was just something I needed to see to make me begin the day laughing.
The Boston Herald Apologizes…

Using the headline (at least online) “We Own Up to Error on Walkthrough Story”.
No. John Tomase printed a flat-out lie and ran with it and you didn’t even expect him to check his facts. That isn’t an error, that’s an agenda. And now you want folks to give you kudos for “owning up”. Screw you, Herald.
Prior to the publication of its Feb. 2, 2008, article, the Boston Herald neither possessed nor viewed a tape of the Rams’ walkthrough before Super Bowl XXXVI, nor did we speak to anyone who had. We should not have published the allegation in the absence of firmer verification.
How the HELL is such an allegation allowed in a newspaper if all of the above is true? They had NOTHING to back the story, yet printed it anyway?
And folks wonder why I hate the sports media.
That POS John Tomase and the editor who allowed that story should both be fired. But, of course, they won’t be. This story brought the Hearld a lot of recognition, even if it was all over something that was made up, so why would they punish that?
It hurts my head that Rob Bradford is connected to such a publication. They print whatever they want, beat it to death and then think it’s over because they print a couple of lines of apology. There’s no accountability anymore as long as it gets you ratings/readers.
Tomase is a piece of shit and the Herald is too for allowing this.
Ugh.
And the suckitude continues…

BoSox can’t beat the Orioles (5-4). PawSox can’t beat the Bisons (6-5).
Baseball is supposed to please me not annoy me.
I’m not pleased. Josh wasn’t “Josh-like” but he still pitched relatively well. The bats just did nothing. Ugh. I hate one-run losses more than any others.
According to the radio dudes for the PawSox, Kyle’s luggage did not make the trip to Buffalo with him. Supposedly, his luggage will be waiting for him when he gets to his hotel tonight. Guess the idea of a 6 foot 8 guy coming after you to get his unmentionables will inspire you to get your ass in gear.
Kyle only gave up one hit in his outing tonight, and it was after loading the bases and hitting a batter with a pitch. I got to listen to all of Kyle’s outing at work, not realizing the fourth third - as Kelly pointed out in comments. Yes, he only went three. Hey, I’m annoyed and tired cut me some slack
- would be his last inning. I didn’t get to listen to the game again until the 8th, so I’m still unsure why Kyle was pulled after only 46 pitches (3 hits, 1 walk and 1 strikeout) - I’m listening to the post-game show now, but no mention yet. I wonder if it’s a blister? Well, at least the loss isn’t on Kyle.
(Hey, I take what I can get on a night like this!)
Edited to add: Okay, I know the Rays are now in first place, but it was still sweet watching Jonny Gomes steal on Rivera/Molina and seeing them win in a walk-off in the 11th inning. It’s May. I can root for the Rays in May even if it affects the Red Sox.
I can’t help it. Watching the Yankees lose (especially the way they just did) really does put a little smile on my face.
And ANOTHER edit: According to ProJo:
Starter Kyle Snyder was held to three innings due to a tight groin. He allowed three hits and a walk.
Oh man. PVs to Kyle!
keep looking »
